When HTNet was first conceived, I had a sidebar list full of links to blogs I find dear to my heart. It stayed on HTNet’s pages for more than a year. It also grew in size as I found more and more blogs that I visited frequently.
Then came a phase in my life where stupid things like Google PageRank and SEO brought out the linking “artist” in me. I came to the conclusion that linking liberally might be bad for HTNet’s own ranking.
About two weeks ago, I reached enlightenment and decided, “To hell with Google and other search engines! This is my blog and I can pretty much damn well link whoever I thought deserve it!”
Now, I’ve gotten rid of the Stalkees page where I used park links to blogs I enjoy reading. I had also put the links back in the sidebar under a category called Interlinking. Why? Because that’s essentially what the Internet is about.
I feel good reclaiming my right to link to anyone anywhere on my pages. I no longer care about PageRank flows or whatever other nonsense that’s not in my control anyway.
So now, the Interlinking list will grow as and when I see fit. Some links point to blogger buddies, some go to sites I find interesting, some go to my other web sites and quite a number are customers of my company.
I don’t know about you… but I feel liberated after doing this. Try it; you might feel the same way too
