Deepavali (or Diwali as the day is known to others) means Festival of Lights. In Malaysia, where I live, we have a multi-racial and multi-cultural society. Most outsiders choose to see the “sensitivity factor” of maintaining harmony, especially in a region surrounded by religious and racial conflicts culminating in terrorism.
The one thing I’m proud of for being a Malaysian is that despite all odds, we’ve coexisted peacefully among various races. As a bonus, we have all sorts of cultural and religious celebrations to, what else… celebrate! Deepavali is one festival I enjoy probably because I love Indian food! Murukku, thosai, chappati… yum yum!
