In this age and time when people are getting more mobile, the traditional meeting is a near impossibility. Which is why I feel that conference calls are a godsend. Given the right equipment and proper arrangement, conference calls could even be a better experience compared to meetings.
When arranging conference calls, there are a few key elements which you need to take a look at:
- Location
- Quality of Service
- Number of parties involved
- Cost of implementation
Arranging a conference call requires meticulous planning, not unlike organising a traditional meeting. Each party should already have the meeting minutes beforehand and be prepared to discuss key issues.
As for professional conference call services, there are a few to choose from. Companies in Malaysia could opt to use services provided by TIME dotCom or TM to name a few. Feel free to comment on other companies you know of that provides conference call services.

We used to have our own Video Conferencing at the last place I worked.
Was good for connecting Sydney and Melbourne, and Perth. [And sometimes Brisbane and Adelaide].
It was funny when they had only a few people in Perth, as we started to fly them in instead, as it was sort of cheaper that way.
March 28th, 2006 at 3:37 pm
Wow. You mean to say that bandwidth there is more expensive than flight tickets?
What sort of prices did you pay for both services?

This was years ago when Bandwidth for Video Conferencing cost an arm and a leg. And when the Perth office only had one or two people needing to be on the video conference, it was cheaper for a ticket … which I think is strange, as I was thinking about it, and a return ticket to and from Perth used to be about $1000 … and I’m sure the video link for a year wasn’t that much, we also paid for it by the hour (or half hour or something) … but, that was the justification for flying the people in from Perth. So, maybe the cost per hour was exhorborant, and they wanted a LONG conference call.
Maybe we had cheaper tickets as it was a corporation thing. I don’t know. That’s just what I got told … but, thinking about it, the company did love to waste money.

When you consider the cost saving and the environmental damage prevention conference calling has to be one of the best ideas in ages!
It gets employees around the table quicker, no air fares to pay and no worry if your employees might be involved in an accident on the road getting to you.

I have a client who is having terrible trouble regarding conference calls, simply because she is French, and understands English very badly, except when it is written… In this age of international trade, this is certainly one drawback to conference calls…

I have read this post. This is very much true. Even I own a blog account on video conferencing. Video conferencing is indeed a great innovation in technology and communications. One day video conferencing will be like an ordinary house-hold item in the next 5-10 years.I will mention your post in my blog.

Initially the concept of video conferencing was new to me but due to the change in technologies I felt that work and the performance of business can be effectively be increased positively due to the investment I made in more than one telepresence room. However, many telepresence solutions are now standards based, so they are compatible with other desktop.

The first time when I used the video conferencing I was really nervous about how do I look or how do I speak through the equipment, but it was a great feeling.

Since my management installed video conferencing equipment in our company’s board room, it becomes very lively when sitting in board meetings and client meetings. Before getting the system installed every meeting was like just preparing for outdoor meetings but now it is changed.
