Nevermind the fact that 2006 is not even half finished, the hardworking people at Google Blogoscoped have collected the Google page count for over 27,000 words in an English dictionary.
As expected, the top 10 positions are occupied by insignificant common English words. What I do find interesting though, is the list top gainers in the last three years.
The number one spot is taken by furl. What suprises me though, is the word that holds second place: soignee.
Also worth noting is that words with proper English spelling (read Queen’s English or UK English) like motorise, hospitalise and transistorise gained significant popularity.
