Elderly Surfers Find The Net ‘Vital’

The BBC has a nice writeup on “Silver Surfers”, basically those who are over 55.

An interesting quote from the article:

More than half of over-55s online say the net gives them a new lease of life. Seven percent look for love online, and 22% play games.

Looking for love online? Probably explains the popularity of viagra spams many of us get on a daily basis 😛 Me? I prefer the good old Kopi Tongkat Ali (coffee with Eurycoma longifolia)

Although the article is UK-centric, it’s interesting to see how older folks are using the Internet to communicate with others, getting new friends and to entertain themselves with online poker, bingo and other games. It offers an interesting insight into how this technology is changing the lives of the elderly.
