Azmeen - Funny thing. Last night after I posted this, I found a Gentoo Disk I had sitting around and tried to install that. It failed dismally and nothing was working. Couldn't even boot up. So, I tried the Fedora 7 install again and it worked.

Only problem is I've lost all my programs and stuff that I wrote, plus all the saves I had on the games I'd been playing. So, it's a fresh install and I'm back to Fedora. But, it's stable and working fine.
Now I get to go through downloading all those things I had installed before, like Blender.
Oh, and it did the i686 install instead of the i386 install, so hopefully it's taking full advantage of my dual core! :-)
Now I have to go conquor Wesnoth again! :-)

Dabido,

Reinstall when things go wrong? Hmm... that's one of the reasons why I switched from Windows in the first place :)

While I haven't actually upgraded Ubuntu before, I foresee that it should be a relatively painless process.

I encourage you to give Ubuntu a try, David. It rocks!

Arun,

Actually I wanted to install Xubuntu because I absolutely love the speed and simplicity of Xfce. However, I just couldn't get a speedy enough mirror to get the ISOs from.

Hmmm, I might have to switch to Ubuntu. My latest upgrade of Fedora went horribly wrong and the solution was to apparently re-install Fedora 7 ... which I did tonight ... now it accepts my login and password, but passes me back to the login screeen. Of course, if you type in an incorrect login or passsword it tells you in nice red letters ... and passes you back to the log in screen. So, at least I know my log in works, even if it won't let me log in!!!!
