Almost everyone with a right frame of mind works. Whether you work for yourself or someone else is another matter. The main thing is to have an objective. Why do you work? Is it because of the money? Is it because of your interests and passions? Is it because of society’s expectations?
For most people, they work because of money. Even though money isn’t everything; almost everything requires money. And that’s the cold hard truth! From those living in shacks to even luxury homes, you will have daily living expenses… and they need to be paid for! There’s no escaping this fact. In fact, if you have a family to care after the responsibility to provide multiplies by leaps and bounds.
If I were to say that I don’t work for the money; it’ll be a lie, although a small one I might add. The main reason why I wake up every morning and make sure I reach the office on time is because I love my job. It provides me with satisfaction. I don’t really get paid well for my job, however, it’s sufficient enough for my survival. The ego boost on the other hand, is what I enjoy the most!
There’s no better feeling than being able to solve problems in ways most other people can’t think of. That is how I get my highs when it comes to work. The fact that I can prove to the rest of the organisation that there’s always a solution to any given problem.
Until the day comes that there are no problems for me to solve and no one for me to teach my methods, I know that I have a role to play in my company. And when that day comes, I know that it’s time to move on.
