While there are instances where a nursing home is completely necessary, I've heard far too many horror stories of neglect in some of the best facilities. The mere thought of my parents being even mildly abused, disturbs me. The ideal situation may be to employ a caregiver at home. Most cities...at least here in Canada, have a sponsorship arrangement in place for caregivers for the elderly as well as children. My 2 cents... Excellent topic…I have to say that I agree with Ethel. Reason being: he didn't want to burden us. But I must admit, it hurts to hear those words coming out from my parents. As none of my grandparents end up in an old folks home, I want to do the same to my parents too. Instead of sending them, I'd take a maid to take care of them. Question is, will my kids do the same to me? lol. For that, I'd like to say, i believe in karma. We fail to plan for our own retirement, we have no comfortable nest egg set-up for after we retire, and worse even is that we are folling ourselves that we won't end up in a retirement home. I do hope to have the financila gain and have enough money to pay for my own care. That way I can stay in my own home, and pay someone to care of me.
