I dunno about you but opera music gives me the inspiration to write (blogs, emails, letters.. etc). You’d probably prefer other genre, but try it out.. see if it suits your mood.

I’ve tried writing while in front of the TV. I tend to get more ideas while watching some of the more educational programs such as those aired on Discovery and National Geographic.

Personally, I’m not really “in” to music. In fact, my favourite radio station is BBC World Service. I just go nuts when driving in KL because the beeb is not available there

Nevertheless, I’ll try writing while listening to music next time. Any particular genre you recommend?

Another recommendation to write while listening to music I see. Again, I have to ask; what, in your opinion, is a good genre to listen to while writing?

I do use a laptop at home and I usually use it in the living room or at the dinner table. Mostly because those are the places where I can hook it up to the phone line (yeah, I should get wireless, I know )

But like Zul said, it works best when you have laptop. You get to move around, looking for the perfect spot to write.

I usually found the third (waking up early) works rather effective. But as the time goes by, it gets me into thinking that an ideal writing environment is really a myth until we take into account the location, space and the added variety of other elements.

For instance, when I am stuck with the writer’s block while writing at my desk station, i found myself writing better when I moved my laptop in front of the tv, or even on my bed!

Most of the time I prefer a quite environment, but at times when I write while listening to music, the idea flows faster. Try it.

Off course the works best when you’re mobile (laptop) and have easy access to wireless network.
