The ShareThis plugin is probably among the most popular ones for WordPress. It can be seen literally everywhere! I got on the ShareThis bandwagon since version 1.4 was released. Although I love the idea behind ShareThis, there is one particular thing that I dislike about it.
The ShareThis plugin is consumes a hell of a lot of bandwidth for a bit of code that mostly stays in the background (in terms of visibility). Check out the page traffic stats for HTNet (year 2008 to date):
Like I said earlier, I love the idea behind ShareThis. It provides a simple interface for visitors to bookmark or send a page link via email. It’s beautifully done too!
Personally, I find it much easier to implement than the original ShareThis plugin. It’s also very easily customized without needing to mess with code of any sort. One significant advantage it has over my old ShareThis 1.4 plugin is the availability of usage statistics. Now I can track if my visitors are really sharing some link love to my pages 😉
So if you’re looking for a cool widget to help your visitors share the links to your web pages more easily, check out ShareThis.
