Probably My Last Ping Attempt To PPS

I’ve been unable to ping to PPS for the past week. Frankly, I have no idea why. I don’t multi-ping, I don’t re-ping old posts, and I’m very sure that I’ve been abiding to PPS policies since the first day I found it… which is roughly two years ago.

I wrote the following email to pps(at)petalingstreet.org after I’ve confirmed that my pings are not getting through:

Hi Aizuddin (or who’s reading this),

I noticed that my pings from HTNet (heritage-tech.net) didn’t get through since yesterday. At first I though it might be some minor glitch, but I’m pretty sure now that it’s definitely an issue.

Is my domain or IP address blocked somehow? If so, could I know why and what was the offending ping that got me blocked. If it was an IP based blocking, I’d just like to let you know that I am on shared hosting.

I’ve been pinging PPS for two years plus and am very sure I didn’t violate any of the PPS Policies.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Warm regards,
Azmeen Afandi

So far, I haven’t receive any replies to that email. Probably Aizuddin and the folks at PPS are busy with other projects.

I guess if this post fails to go through as well, I probably won’t ping PPS again. If this is the case then I would just like to say “Thank You” to everyone who made PPS possible… it was a useful tool for me and probably thousands of other Malaysian bloggers.

Contest: Showcase Your Best Post

I’m starting a contest that will only last for two days and open to only those not in my blogroll (ie. blogs not linked in the Blogs I Read section in my sidebar). Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Link in a comment what you think is the best post in your blog. Only one post allowed, all comments with more than one link, or multiple comments recommending different posts on the same blog will be disqualified
  2. Tell us why you think that this is your best post

Simple, right? Of course! I’m a simple guy.

Depending on the number of participants; I will pick up to three winners. What do the winners win? Glad you asked. Winners will be linked on HTNet until 31 December 2007, guaranteed! If I really like your blog, then I will link you permanently.

Comments on this post will be disabled at 11:30pm on Sunday, 22 April 2007, Malaysian time (GMT+8). Winners will be announced by 5:00pm, Monday 23 April 2007.

Why would you want this prize? Because HTNet is a PR5 blog and it is absolutely loved by all the search engines in the world. You know it’s true, that’s why you’re participating!

Blogs with pornography, adult content, alcohol, drugs and other common no-nos need not participate. Not because I’m biased, but I can’t link to you even if you win… sorry!

UPDATE: Since there were only two participants, and I find both posts likeable, I’ve included KY’s Whatever and Cindy’s Foreign Beauty in my blogroll. I’ve also subscribed to your feeds :) Congrats!

Four Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be A Problogger

As the monetizing of web content becomes easier and its tentacles spread globally, anyone who has a blog will sooner or later have this thought pop inside their head; “Wow, imagine if I were to do this full time!”.

Some not only entertain this evil voices in their heads, but actually follows what it tells them to do!

I’m not saying that being a problogger is bad. I blog myself but I will never even consider being a problogger. Blogging is not a useful skill that you could use in life. It’s a hobby; something you do in your pastime. For me, it’s a marriage of my two main hobbies; writing and web technologies.

Earning your living by blogging is what I don’t recommend others to do; and here are four reasons why.
