Drama At Newcastle United… Again

Newcastle United Football Club

It’s tough times again at my favourite Premier League football club, Newcastle United. And again it involves a former Chelsea person, Dennis Wise. The last time I remember NUFC being in a similar mess was when we had Ruud Gullit as manager. I guess ex-Chelsea people just brings bad luck to Newcastle United… maybe that’s not true, but they sure can drive good Geordies away though!

Apparently there’s a clash of personalities between Kevin Keegan and Dennis Wise. Although I have much respect for Keegan, he has yet again shown the world that he is a quitter. I don’t know of any managerial position that he had held in his career that didn’t end with him quitting. He’s always the one who wanted out and I just hope for his sake that the next gig he gets won’t end the same.

Of Inverted Flags And Net Censorship

I haven’t posted anything for over two weeks now. Traditionally, I usually post something about Merdeka or Awal Ramadhan, but this year I skipped writing about them.

Out of the two, I feel particular disconnected from writing about Merdeka. On one side of the fence, there are calls from some bloggers for the Malaysian flag to be hung upside down as a sign that our nation is in distress. What a crock of shit!

DVD Sniffer Dog Dies

On May 31st, Manny; one of Malaysia’s foreign trained crimebuster died from an unknown cause. Manny (along with his sidekick Paddy) is part of Malaysia’s first canine anti-piracy unit that has been trained to detect hidden stashes of DVDs.

Just like the previous canine duo Lucky and Flo, Manny and Paddy was generously donated to the Malaysian government by the esteemed MPAA.

Petrol Prices To Be Revised: Guess The New Price And Win $30

Petrol Price

So it’s virtually confirmed; the price of petrol (or gas for you American folks) in Malaysia will be hiked. Abdullah Badawi says it will be announced and implemented tomorrow (Wednesday, 4 June 2008). Shahrir Samad (Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister) says although the announcement might come tomorrow, implementation would take longer.

So who’s right? Our PM flip-flops so much that I find it becoming harder everyday to believe what he says. I tend to swing towards Datuk Shahrir in this issue, primarily because he’s a trained economist and petrol price control is under his ministry’s area of responsibility.

However, I can’t resist the temptation to guess what’s the new price of petrol would be soon. I’m sure many Malaysians and non-Malaysians do to. So why not make this guesswork (or speculation as our beloved PM seems to call it) be both fun and profitable.

I am now officially launching the “HTNet Speculate Guess The New Price Of Malaysian Petrol Contest” where there can only be one winner. The first person who guesses the correct revised price for a liter of petrol in Malaysia will be given $30 (USD)!

Congratulations Datuk Shahrir Samad!

I’ve always been an admirer of Datuk Shahrir Samad. I believe he epitomizes the die hard spirit of Johoreans. He’s been through so many negative experiences but time and time again he rises from the ashes. He’ll always be a phoenix in my book.

Due to my utmost respect for Datuk Shahrir (who also happens to be my MP – Johor Bahru), I am very pleased to have learned that he’s now Malaysia’s new Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).
