My Favourite Social Media Sites

I guess I should start by stating what the phrase “social media” means. According to Wikipedia:

Social Media is the democratization of information, transforming people from content readers into content publishers. It is the shift from a broadcast mechanism to a many-to-many model, rooted in conversations between authors, people, and peers.

I couldn’t have phrased it better, so I’m sticking to that definition. The part I agree most in the definition is the many-to-many bit. It’s the main idea behind social media and that’s what making it awesome!

HTNet Reaches 100 RSS Subscribers

Today is a very historical day for HTNet. We have reached a RSS readership of over 100 (101 to be exact) at the time I’m posting this. And of course, I only have you to thank for reaching this milestone. Without you, loyal readers of HTNet, I would probably have given up blogging, even writing in general.

Now if only I had a few hundred bucks for every feed subscriber HTNet has; I can probably go on a trip to Las Vegas with my family :)

Better still, probably I should run some sort of contest to celebrate this occasion. I don’t have much to offer but I think I can allocate around USD $20 for a “prize”. Don’t scoff at the figure, it can easily get you a domain for two years ;)

If I were to run this contest, would you participate?

And yeah, don’t forget to subscribe to my feed. Let’s see if we can get the figure to go above 150 by the end of the year ;)

Weekend Shopping Time!

Well, I got my first AdSense payment via Western Union on Friday and I must say that it’s incredibly convenient! Very fast and the exchange rate is pretty decent. I received about half a grand in Malaysian Ringgit and that’s pretty substantial.

So substantial in fact, that I’m going to go furniture shopping with my family later in the morning. I do have some items in mind, which includes:

  • Dressing table (hopefully one with adjustable and lighted makeup mirrors) for my SO
  • Coffee table for my living room
  • Cupboard for my son’s room

In JB, one of the best place to go furniture shopping would be Taman Molek. They have all sorts of furniture shop to fit virtually any tastes and budget.

What’s your favourite furniture shopping area? I’d love to get some recommendations!

My Minimalistic Approach To Home Deco

What’s a minimalist? According to dictionary.com:

  • a practitioner of minimalism in music or art.
  • of, pertaining to, or characteristic of minimalism.
  • being or offering no more than what is required or essential: a minimalist program for tax reform.

Trivia: 3 Little Known Facts About PageRank

With the recent hoo-haa over PageRank over the past week or so, I’ve read so many stories, conspiracy theories and downright nonsense about the algorithm behind that little green bar. But what do we really know about this thing that causes so many webmasters to lose sleep and bloggers to wail that they’re going to lose their online revenue?
