The Duck That Refuses to Die

You’d probably expect an animal to be long gone after being shot and refrigerated for two days. However, Perky the duck, continues to beat the odds despite being “temporarily dead” twice on an operating table. From the BBC:

“The first time she stopped breathing a quick thump on the chest brought her back,” Ms May told the BBC News website.

“But once the surgeon started sewing her back up she stopped breathing again, this time for 15 seconds.”

When a second thump failed to bring Perky round, veterinary surgeon David Hale tried manipulating the duck’s beak, before using a needle to shock her into consciousness.

At one point the duck was given pure oxygen through a face mask, Ms May said.

“At that point the vet turned and said: ‘I’m sorry, she’s gone.’”

The room fell into shocked silence as those present took in the news, but then Perky raised her head and began flapping her wings.

Best CNY Fast Food Offering: Prosperity Burger

There’s just something about McDonald’s Prosperity Burger that makes it so damn irresistible! Is it:

  • The tender, soft, longish beef patty (yeah, I know there’s a chicken version of it, but I’m a beef addict, so moo to you!)?
  • The generous dose of black pepper sauce?
  • The delightful onion rings?
  • All of the above?

Too bad that this is one of McD’s “seasonal” food offering… which is one of the reasons why I love Chinese New Year!

If they sell it permanently, I might be one of their most regular customers. I’ve had three Prosperity Burgers so far this week… it’s definitely the best burger ever invented by mankind!

Which DVD Player Do You Recommend?

While checking out the electronics section at Giant, I came across two DVD players which:

  • Can play DivX files
  • Can read DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
  • Is within my budget :)

The first one is LG’s DVX162. It’s slim and compact and supports Xvid (but isn’t Xvid compatible with DivX anyway?) as well. However, I’m not too keen on buying an LG product due to past experiences.

Next in my to-consider list is Panasonic’s DVD-S325. It’s selling point is that it supports DivX up to version 6 (the current version at the time of this post). It’s slightly more expensive than the DVX162.

Any of my esteemed readers own(ed) any of the above players? Would you recommend buying them? Why? Looking forward to your feedback.

Merry Christmas

…and a happy new year!

New digg Design Is Cool

I guess the digg team got the message that the previous design was hideous and slow.

It didn’t took me long to appreciate this latest one. It’s definitely more navigable and being dynamic width makes the flow nicer on hi-res monitors. I’m also glad they moved Videos into a section of its own… it’s the most bloody irritating piece of crap introduced in the previous update.

This design definitely gets a digg from me.
