Organising Your Desktop For Productivity

Anthony of Antbag.com has written a wonderful piece on how to organise your desktop for productivity.

The idea is simple:

  1. Segment your desktop into a few visually distinguishable areas
  2. Label the areas accordingly
  3. Only place files that are relevant to the category of a particular area

A damn ingenius idea if you ask me!

Time Management For Productivity And Profit

Have you noticed how the topic of Time Management is getting mentioned and discussed more frequently recently? More and more people are starting to realise that managing time efficiently will enable us to achieve more in less time. Whether we are ready for it or not, it’s now the age of multi-tasking. Gone are the days when your jobscope has a few clearly defined responsibilities and other things are non of your business.

I think that almost everyone knows this aspect of Time Management; don’t waste time. Yet, day to day, we keep doing it; loafing on the couch or at the coffee shop, yakking on the mobile for too long, and my personal addiction… spending a little bit too much time surfing the Internet.

  • Organising
  • Leading
  • Controlling

Online Speed Reading Tool: spreeder.com

Speed reading is usually defined as an offline productivity exercise, but as more and more of our time is spent reading online and softcopy texts, it should be applied to our on monitor reading materials as well.

However, this is easier said than done. For one thing, text presented on screen has a continual feel to it. Unlike printed material, you don’t get the physical boundaries provided by pages… which makes it harder to concentrate on the material for longer time periods.

I was glad to stumble upon spreeder.com which makes online speed reading easier. It’s an extremely simple tool to use. Basically, you just need to copy the text you want to speed read and paste it into the spreeder.com text area. After that, just click the play button to start speed reading :)

What spreader.com does is to display one word (by default) of the pasted text at a time at the center of the interface. The default reading speed is at 300 wpm. These, as well other miscellanous settings, can be customised to your own preference.
