TechCrunch has written about rumours regarding the potential purchase of StumbleUpon by eBay for around $40 – $45 million. It’s telltale sign that I should probably stop stumbling altogether.
Personally, I’m no fan of net videos. I don’t post YouTube content on HTNet, nor do I even watch more than 5% of whatever YouTube links thrown in my direction. I thought Joost would be a better thingy, but now it seems that I’m lucky if I could even get the bloody thing to load.
Before I go way offtopic, let me get back to StumbleUpon and how I find it getting suckier by the day. It all started when they decided to include a so-called feature called Stumble Video. At first I was very happy, because I assumed it means that I can disable stumbling upon videos now! But this was not to be. Essentially, it adds yet another video portal that I want to avoid.
Since the inception of Stumble Video, more than two-thirds of my stumbles are bloody videos!
Which is why, should the romour be true… I’d be a very happy person. What used to be a great randomised browsing tool being purchased by a company I don’t deal with. It would suck if Google or Yahoo! becomes the purchaser… it’ll just distract them further from what they’re really good at and have to justify the purchase by doing yet another irritating integration excercise.
I guess it’s goodbye to SU then… or I might just use it to stumble my own pages. Nothing beats throves of eBayers stumbling onto your webs 🙂
