Below are some WordPress related stuff I’ve made.
- Themes
- Widgets
Themes
Uncrufty

A flexi-columned (main content + one/two sidebars) theme that is heavily blue-purplish in nature. Should be compatible with WordPress 2.0 or newer.
Uncrufty is a lightweight theme that is easily customizable to your liking. It’s a pristine theme without the bundling of any plugins or core file hacks.
If you’re not using WordPress 2.3.x, it’s recommended that you use this theme along with the Sidebar Widgets plugin for maximum customisation of your blog’s presentation. WP2.3.x already has the widget function integrated with the core.
Download Uncrufty 1.0 here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/themes/.
Update (15 February 2008): Scott asked for a consistent 2-sidebar version of Uncrufty; I’m happy to oblige! Download Uncrufty Consistent 2 Sidebar Build here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/themes/.
Quicklime

A three columned (main content + two sidebars) theme with a lime green feel to it. Should be compatible with WordPress 2.0 or newer.
Quicklime has a number of useful settings for your blog:
- Referencing your Feedburner feed instead of WP’s built in feed function
- Integrated Digg, del.icio.us, reddit and Sphere bookmarklets in posts and pages
- Adsense (or similar ad programs) integration in posts and pages
Although Quicklime can function just fine without it, it’s recommended that you use this theme along with the Sidebar Widgets plugin for maximum customisation of your blog’s presentation.
Download Quicklime 1.0 here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/themes/.
Tuned 1.00

FYI: Tuned is WordPress 2.1 Compatible!
A lightweight, minimalist, bluish Widgets and WordPress Theme Toolkit enabled theme for WordPress 2.0 and above.
This theme is optimised for AdSense by placing ads on areas that are proven to get the best clickthrough rates. Simply paste your adsense codes for the following types of ads:
- Skyscaper: This ad will be placed in the area on the right of your pages.
- Banner: This ad will be placed under the post title in the single entry view of your blog posts.
- AdSense Referrals: This ad will be placed just underneath the logo.
In order to get the best returns on the ad placements, please make sure that you enter suitable codes for the right area. The theme does not check what sort of codes you enter for the areas mentioned above.
Codes from other advertising networks are supported as well. You can also ignore this feature totally by not entering anything in the AdSense codes section.
Download Tuned 1.00 here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/themes/.
Once you have the theme installed, activate it and preview the theme by viewing your blog. You can then configure the AdSense codes by clicking the Tuned link under the Presentation admin menu.
Got any comments or suggestions? Send them this way, please. Thank you!
Widgets
Section Specific Text
A sidebar WordPress widget that displays text (HTML or PHP generated content) on blog sections you specify.
Features supported are:
- Display on:
- Front page
- Posts
- Pages
- Dead links (404 pages)
- Category archives
- Author archives
- Date archives
- Tag archives
- Display everywhere except:
- Front page
- Posts
- Pages
- Dead links (404 pages)
- Category archives
- Author archives
- Date archives
- Tag archives
- Supports HTML natively
- Supports PHP output via third party plugins like Exec-PHP
Sounds useful to you? Then download Section Specific Text Widget and start playing with it!
Single Bookmark Category List
A sidebar WordPress widget that displays links from a bookmark category within unordered lists (<ul> tag).
This widget is especially useful when you want to spread out the display of your bookmarks into two or more separate sidebars; something the bundled Links widget doesn’t support (at present). You can have a maximum of nine Single Bookmark Category List widgets on your blog (and more if you modify the PHP codes a bit).
Update (18 May 2007): Fixed incompatibility with WordPress 2.2. Released as version 1.1
Update 2 (28 September 2007): Branched a WordPress 2.3 compatible version. Released as version 2.0
Please make sure you install the correct version:
WP 2.2.x Users: Download Single Bookmark Category List 1.1 here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/plugins/widgets/.
WP 2.3 Users: Download Single Bookmark Category List 2.0 here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/plugins/widgets/.
Most Commented Posts
A sidebar widget that lists your most commented posts within unordered lists (<ul> tag).
Features include:
- Customisable header text
- You can select how many posts you want to list (1 to 10)
- You can choose to list most commented posts for:
- The current month
- The current year
- Since your blog started
- Output can be customised via four key CSS classes
Download Most Commented Posts 1.0 here and unzip the archive to /<your wordpress installation dir>/wp-content/plugins/widgets/.

Using SQL in your plugin is very very ugly. Instead of this:
$term = get_object_vars($wpdb->get_row(“SELECT name FROM $wpdb->terms WHERE term_id=$catid LIMIT 1″));
Use This:
$term = get_term($catid, ‘link_category’, ARRAY_A);
This is much more similar to what you had in your previous version, and takes advantage of the cache as well.

Single Bookmark Category List is a great little widget.
I modified it to get up to 15 widgets (I had 10 links categories) and to get Links ordered by rating. Would be great to have an ‘order by’ option in each widget!
Thanks for sharing this plug-in!
Mauro.

Thank you! All of the category widgets I use regularly of course stopped working with 2.3, and developers have been slow to update them. I had to manually enter links in text widgets for one of my sites in order to separate them by category. So I really appreciate your efforts in developing this 2.3 friendly widget.

Is there a way for readers to easily comment on a post without going to the post itself? I don’t know if I’m making sense, but in the Uncrufty theme, there is now comment link near the post title. At least not on mine. Maybe I have some plugins that are conflicting. I do know that my email this post and print this post plugins don’t show up either. Nevertheless, there’s more good with this theme and the little hitches. I like it; I would just like some more features available, or just would like to know how to fix those problems I have. Thanks,

Thanks so much for a simple and elegant solution to site-wide links and losing ‘link-juice’ in google. I’ve used your ‘site specific text’ plugin to drop my link list into my front page, without having to get stuck into designing a second sidebar (the second best solution).

I really enjoy using your Single Bookmark Category list. I had a question though, is it possible to use the same widget but add more categories? At the moment it is limited to 9 different categories but for me it would be nice to have more than that. It that possible?

Pieter
